If the blog posts have been a little quiet of late, it is because my family has been preparing for something most wonderful: Welcoming the little blessing that is our third child, a son!
Our little boy was born last week after a relatively quick labour. We were at pains to come up with a name for him for a few days, but finally settled on Jordan Robert Au.
Jordan (Heb. יַרְדֵּן) was the name of a famous river in Old Testament times, and famously crossed by Israel as a marker of their entry into the land (Canaan) God has promised them (Joshua 3:17). It is a terrific picture of what the ultimate story of the whole Bible is about: God lovingly rescuing us out of death and into the fullness of His life, and leading us by His Spirit until we are complete and perfect on the Last Day when Jesus returns. A favourite hymn of mine is Guide Me Thou O Great Jehovah, where the last stanza captures this well for what this means for us as Christians.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of deaths, and hell’s destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to Thee!
We decided to give his middle name Robert, after my father, whose humility and kindness makes him the greatest dad one could ever wish for.
Here are a few snaps from Jordan’s first few days. Enjoy!
